The Private Education Act
The Private Education Act
The Private Education Act was legislated in October 2009 by the Singapore government to regulate all Private Education Institutions (PEIs). The Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA) administers and exercises the functions and powers under the Act and its subsidiary legislations.
Addison Institute is registered as a PEI with the Skills and Workforce Development Agency.
PEI-Student Contract
SWDA requires all PEIs and their students to sign a student contract for any course that is longer than 30 days, or 50 hours.
The Student Contract lays out the important terms and conditions between the student and Addison Institute, on matters such as course information, payment and refund terms, among other things.
Fee Protection Scheme
Addison Institute has in place a Fee Protection Scheme Group Insurance (FPS-G) to protect applicable fees paid by local and international students. FPS protects students’ fees in the event that a PEI is unable to continue operating due to insolvency, and/or closure, as well as if a PEI is unable to pay a judgement sum due to a student. Under the FPS Group Insurance, COI will be issued to the PEIs by the FPS Insurance Providers with a determined insurable amount to cover all programme fees to be collected by the PEI during the period of indemnity.

Addison Institute has appointed Lonpac Insurance Bhd as our FPS insurance provider.
Cooling-Off Period
There is a cooling off period of 10-calendar days after signing the Student Contract. Students have the right to cancel the contract within the cooling-off period of 10 calendar days, and be entitled to a full refund of Course Fees and Miscellaneous Fees paid. After the cooling-off period, the Addison Institute refund policy will apply.
